Features & Upgrades For The New Construction Smart Homes

Enhanced Indoor Air Quality:
HRV and ERV systems enhance the indoor air quality in a space by exhausting indoor air pollutants and replacing that air with filtered outdoor air. A Heat Recovery Ventilator is a complete whole house ventilation system that incorporates a supply motor and an exhaust motor in one unit. It is designed to bring a continuous supply of fresh air into the home while exhausting an equal amount of contaminated air. HRVs use a special aluminum core that transfers heat from the exhaust air stream to the incoming air stream. Fresh incoming air is tempered by the heat that is transferred from the outgoing air so you save on energy costs and put you on the pass to a Chicago healthy home. HRVs are designed for colder areas of the country that have longer heating seasons as well as drier desert areas of the South.

Energy Star Rated Window & Doors:

With the choice of three different material types, Pella offers products that can contribute to many LEED® points for energy efficiency, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.

Lowers energy bills and saves you money. With more efficient windows and doors, you use less energy..

Get comfortable.
Put an end to cold drafts and overheated spaces, keeping your home’s temperature consistently comfortable.

Protect your valuables.
Low-emissivity coatings on  ENERGY STAR certified windows, doors, and skylights reduces UV sun damage to floors, carpets, and furniture.

The municipal water treatment stations might produce great results, what they don’t take into account is the state of the water as it flows from the plant to your home. These long pipes have been lying around for decades and, in some instances, over a century.

These water distribution pipes are filled with dust, debris, and microorganisms that all feed the water and feed off the water while it travels along to your tap. So, what you get at the end of the pipe is not the best drinking water solution.

Solar power is an excellent investment for your home in Illinois due to state-mandated net metering, the federal tax credit, and the state’s adjustable block program for the purchasing of renewable energy credits

Not only will you reduce your carbon emissions when you switch to solar, you also greatly reduce how much you spend on power. A system in Illinois can pay for itself in as little as 10 years!                             PV / Solar panels are no longer a thing of the future.

Solar panels can generate  power  even on overcast days, and some models can even work with a light coating of snow. They do need to be installed in a relatively shade-free area, and in the United States, solar panels will invariably be installed on a South-facing roof, as that’s where they’ll get the most sunlight.

  1. Installing solar panels provides a long-term subsidy benefits
  2. Save money  reducing energy costs on your monthly electricity bill
  3. Solar panels are long-lasting and require little upkeep

Advantages of Adding an EV Charger at Home

Price Incentives

Public charging stations cost you about 8-15 cents per kilowatt-hour. The price to install an electric car charger point at home is going to prove advantageous no matter what, since this one-time investment will mean that you don’t have to spend some amount each time you want to refill your car’s battery.

Reliability

An at-home charging station would mean that you can fuel your car any time you want without the need to look for a public port. There is always a high risk running out of power before you end up at the next port. Having one at home can ensure that you maintain steady power levels and can refill the battery overnight.
Charging your  EV / Electric Vehicle is as easy as plugging in your cell phone with the available 240-volt charging unit.

“PACKAGE THEFT PREVENTION” A must have for home or business package deliveries

Simple electronic keypad for delivery driver and home owner access (just add your 4 digit code to the delivery instructions of anything you order). The electronic smart lock drop box is a great feature for todays house holds. Help stop the porch pirate epidemic

A tank-style water heater expends energy around the clock to maintain the temperature of a 40 to 50-gallon water supply so that hot water is ready when it’s needed.

Tankless water heaters, as their name suggests, heat water on-demand and do not maintain a supply of water. By only heating water when it’s needed, tankless water heaters do not experience standby heat loss, which occurs when heat escapes the water tank and needs constant reheating.

When a tap, shower, or appliance is turned on, cold water passes through the tankless water heater where it’s heated by either a gas-fired burner or electric coils.

Grabbing the broom for a quick clean–up, instead of pulling out and setting up the vacuum, is sometimes all that you need. Always available, the Sweepovac vacuum system is the perfect partner for fast, effective bare floor cleaning. Sweep debris, dirt, and pet hair to the mouth of the inlet, touch the power button with your toe, and watch that mess disappear in seconds.

Chicago Hybrid House

Julian Dawson

World Renowned  Architect, Engineer, Designer, Builder  &  Mentor

The Hybrid House  is a 2,000 plus square-foot, two-bedroom single family home that is a cutting edge dream home.

Although privately owned and occupied, the project was constructed in partnership with the African-American Home Builders Association as a community resource.

The house has an aggressive passive-solar approach that is enhanced with an unusual air floor plenum that is a substitute for hydronic radiant heat. This brings the comfort and thermal mass benefits of a radiant system to an all-air system. High-efficiency and renewable energy systems include a ground-source heat pump serving the air floor system, solar water heating, a 4.8 kW solar electric system, this design is approaching zero net energy.

Other indoor features include the typical low-VOC finishes and low-flow plumbing fixtures, including dual-flush toilets. Outdoor features include rain barrels, a rain garden, Energy Star roofing, and an organic garden. He is living a more sustainable life. when I met Julian,  it was a life changing  experience.  My whole concept on building and remodeling completed change.  That story is for a later day. What I got was much more than a tour; it was a lesson  that really had me thinking.
